RollerCoaster Dangers

RollerCoaster Dangers

I have to say that the subject of rollercoasters is a sore one for me.  I know that my views will be seen as that of a killjoy but frankly, how many accidents and near misses do we need to experience before we fully commit to the idea that this is a dangerous sport.

All the naysayers, thrillseekers and others will be furiously protesting and telling us that there are less problems with these rides than that of crossing the road, however, the latter is a venture that has to be undertaken with the associated risks in order to go about one’s daily business.

How many more warnings do we need in order to face up to the truth here? How many times have we read about or been educated by the news reporters to the effect that someone has been paralysed or suffered amputation or worse, due to their desire to go on a fast ride?

What will it take for us to become aware and in possession of the full facts and choose not to take our life in our hands literally?

It is a saddening and shocking fact that still today, and after all that we have learned to witness humankind still craving this activity, and yes, still making excuses for the accident record…

Theme Parks should build fantastic rides that are completely safe and probably to the exclusion of rollercoasters, whatever happened to simulated thrills, or 4D cinematic ones? Safe and Fun…And this includes pop up fun-fairs too.

Outdoor Cinema Is Where It’s At

Ever dream of watching a film under the stars, well it is possible.  Around London we have many pop ups and venues that reinvent themselves for this purpose, housing themselves in picturesque settings and partnering up with fantastic foodie mavens to create an unforgettable experience.

Pop Up Screens, Inflatable Hot Tubs, Floating Cinemas we have got it all .  For an adventure packed night with a difference check out everything that is available.  There is something to suit everyone and in so many locations it really will be a fun night out.

From Hackney to Hertfordshire and everywhere in between, be sure to look at the guides and book yourself a seat on the funnest ride in town!

Something tells me that the choice of the actual viewing will not be as important as the fun venue and facilities and amenities that are on offer with each different screening.

If you are after a venue with a spectacular view checkout the Rooftop at Kensington Gardens, or the Chelsea Town Hall, not forgetting the Drive In at Alexandra Palace or the Secret Cinema with undisclosed location to kick start the habit for you!

You may not be into Opera, but surely the venue as a film going event would be tempting…

Whatever you choose, enjoy and we look forward to hearing and sharing your experiences!

Packing List

  • Backpack –To carry all your essential gear to the event.
  • Day pack – To carry stuff that wont fit in your pocket.
  • Tent – Give it a quick check over before you go.
  • Sleeping Bag and roll mat.
  • Clothing – Easy fold non-crease items, tunics/kaftans that can be worn day to night. Comfortable footwear, layers for nights.

  • Mobile Phone – Festivals are usually very crowded, you’re bound to get lost.  Spare phone  batteries are useful too.  The last thing you want to do is be sitting by a plug, charging your phone while you’re mates are having a good time.
  • Cash – Take enough money to get through the whole festival, sometimes cash machines can be hard to find.
  • Medication – Basic medication; paracetamol, insect repellent, indigestion tablets etc.  If you get caught with anything illegal, police will arrest you and send you home.
  • Pocket Knife – For opening cans and things.
  • Water – Essential in hot weather, most festival organisers will permit you to take water into the event.
  • Toiletries– Especially cleansing wipes and wet wipes, dry shampoo, Always Dailies (pantliners), 3in1 makeup stick for eyes, cheeks, lips, toothbrush and paste.
  • Toilet paper
  • Extra plastic bags,  to pack your dirty gear away.

Keep all your valuables at home, most festival goers are really friendly, but don’t make yourself an easy target.  Make sure you check the festivals website to confirm what you can and cannot take to the festival.

Royal Ascot is renowned for fashion, food, celebrity and just having a great time.  The outfit is just as important but should play second fiddle to the millinery, accessorising with the finishing touches.

Remember to choose the fit and style that most accentuates your bodyshape, then pair with a classy clutch and heels.  You will always look your best when you feel comfortable and exude elegance.  Head over to Reiss for the epitome of glamour and style.  Their collections are always spot on trend and manage to capture the essence of a British woman, looking cool, calm and collected.  Avoid anything too fussy, or difficult to wear as you will be sporting this outfit all day and want to appear as well turned out at the end of the full on event as you began it!

Lending a stately feel to the proceedings, no day would be complete without the dining experience.  There are a number of restaurant and catering options including michelin and fine dining.

Enjoy your day whether you are getting dressed up to experience the feel of it, or the full on proceedings.

Brilliant Bonds Of Famous Mothers And Daughters

Goldie Hawn & Kate Hudson

Goldie Hawn’s daughter Kate Hudson, who received an Oscar nomination for 2000’s “Almost Famous,” was once asked if she could see the uncanny resemblance between herself and her mother.

Debbie Reynolds & Carrie Fisher

Catapulted to fame by 1977’s “Star Wars,” Carrie Fisher wrote about her relationship with her famous mother in the quasi-autobiographical 1987 novel “Postcards from the Edge.” Fisher was later asked how she felt about being Debbie Reynolds’ daughter.

New Social Media Apps…To Be Tried And Tested

Thumbs Up Icons Shows Follow Apps And Internet Symbols

New Social Media Apps…To Be Tried And Tested

1. Meerkat
Get ready to hear the lingo ‘Are you Meerkating this?’ because, despite being only eight weeks old, Meerkat already has gained a huge amount of attention. It’s a live streaming video app that enables users to broadcast what they’re up to over Twitter. With a click of a button, users tweet out a video link to all of their followers who can tune in and comment live. It was the breakthrough app from SXSW and it already counts Ashton Kutcher and Jared Leto among it’s 150,000 users.

2. Shots
A whole platform dedicated to selfies, Shots only allows you to add photos through the front-facing camera, which then gets shared with other Shots users. Of course it also comes with the obligatory hotty-enhancing filters and is financially backed by Justin Bieber. We’re just surprised Kim K didn’t want in on the action.

3. Secrets
Secrets allows you to post and comment with your friends anonymously, and when a friend likes a comment it becomes shared with their network too. Daily topics are also selected to stimulate discussion and help you connect with new users. Be prepared for gossip, funny anecdotes and some intriguing revelations.

4. Yik Yak
Similar to Secret, Yik Yak also is anonymous, but instead of posting to your friends, you connect with fellow users nearby. It’s proving popular with student campuses and you can also take a peek at what other Yik Yak users are saying elsewhere by changing your location feed.

5. FireChat
FireChat allows you to chat with people around you, even when there’s no Internet connection or phone signal. It cleverly works through users’ Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals to connect to other devices within a given range. It was a favourite amongst revellers at Burning Man last year, and is a download must for any festival-goer.

6. Bubbly
Bubbly is described as the ‘Instagram of voice’. It allows users to share short voice messages – ‘Bubbles’ – with their friends and followers. You can also get creative by adding filters, effects and background music.

7. Yo
Yo literally forwards a “Yo” notification to your friends to let them know you are thinking about them. There are three different varieties available to send: you have the straight up “Yo” (nothing more than a notification), a “Yo” with a link attached, or “Yo Location” (clue’s in the title). The fuss-free simplicity of this app will come into its own when smart watches start to become mainstream (aka when the Apple Watch is released).

8. WeChat
WeChat is your all-in-one messaging service that allows you to text, call, video call, share moments and play games with anyone around the world for free. Think a mash up of Facebook, What’sApp and Viber. It’s been big in China for a while, but with the likes of BuzzFeed getting an official account (they send you one or two viral stories a day) it’s set to get bigger in the UK market.
