When setting goals for yourself, there is no doubt that you have good intentions. Like most people however, you probably have a huge struggle in reaching these goals. Your whole idea of sticking to your goals is to reap the benefits and make a success of your life. However, things happen in life that throw you off-course, and you find it impossible to focus on your goals. Here are 4 easy ways to help you stay focussed on the goals you’ve set for yourself.

  1. Narrow down your list of goals

It’s great that you’ve set yourself goals in life, but you must be realistic about it. You will notice very soon that you become sidetracked by one goal, and can’t work on another. Instead, narrow your list down to 2 or 3 goals, and set yourself a deadline in which to achieve them, and this applies to daily, medium, and long-term goals. Your daily goals should tie in with your medium and long-term goals, so that you can see every day, the progress you are making, which will give you the motivation you need to carry on.

  1. Break down your long-term goals

Large goals can be extremely overwhelming, and can cause you to lose confidence and the motivation you need to carry on. Break up your large goals into smaller steps, each with its own particular achievable task. Instead of having to focus on one large goal, you can concentrate on the smaller steps that you need to achieve in order to complete the entire goal. This will make it less daunting, and your confidence and motivation will be boosted with each step you complete. Treat yourself after accomplishing each step, as this will help you to maintain your momentum and passion for achieving that large goal you’re aiming for.

It is important to keep a record of your progress. Seeing in black-and-white how your goal is progressing, will motivate you into taking the next step. Write down your thoughts and feelings too, so if you ever attempt the same type of goal at some point in the future, you can evaluate your notes and create the best plan as to how to stay focused on the goals you’ve set for yourself.

  1. Tell others about your goals

Provided that your goals aren’t too personal or confidential, telling someone you trust will make you more accountable. When your friends and family see that you are honouring your goals, they will greatly respect the fact that you’ve kept your word. These people will give you the encouragement you need when the going gets a bit rough, and will celebrate with you all the way, whenever you succeed in achieving any of the goals you are trying to achieve.
